A Vietnamese made mandolin with a solid spruce top and laminated walnut back and sides.
Slightly arched construction with floating bridge and 'onion' shape body.
This attractive looking mandolin comes from Ashbury's Vietnamese factory where they're coming up with some impressive designs. The Rathlin is a Portuguese style mandolin with a slightly domed top and floating bridge, so by modern standards it's in the Celtic family of mandolins. It's quite deep bodied and resonant and a lot darker sounding than the similarly price Army Navy model by the same company with a more refined tone, if possibly a little less punchy.
