Alfred Knight established his piano making business in Essex in 1936 and remained at the helm throughout his lifetime. After Alfred's death the company was sold to the Bentley Piano Co. Ltd and finally the name came under the control of Whelpdale, Maxwell & Codd until 2003. The best Knight pianos were those made under Alfred's watch. The K10 upright gained huge popularity due to its unburstable build quality which made it a common feature in schools, as a teaching instrument and also in the homes of piano students.
